Welcome to Joanna Rose Yoga
I offer weekly yoga classes in Swansea at the Wellbeing Centre and Upper Killay Community Hall, where we’ve grown a supportive, welcoming community. I also run day retreats, pop-up outdoor sessions, and work with private 1:1 clients, schools, and local organisations.
My classes weave together somatic movement, yoga, breathwork, mindfulness, meditation, and compassion practices to support your physical health, emotional wellbeing, and nervous system regulation. Each class offers a blend of nourishing movement, stillness, and guided rest that’s designed to care for your whole self—body, mind, and heart.
We move in ways that ease tension, gently hydrate tissues and joints, and help unwind habitual patterns of holding - like tight shoulders or a clenched jaw - so your body can feel more responsive and at ease in everyday life.
These sessions offer more than just exercise. They’re an opportunity to reconnect, breathe deeply, and care for yourself with compassion, presence, and intention. Rather than focusing on how a pose looks, we focus on how movement feels -so you can move at your own pace and listen to what your body truly needs. This kind, grounded approach builds strength without strain, improves balance and mobility, and supports your body’s natural ability to heal and regulate itself. Many people leave class feeling more at home in themselves - better able to rest, move with ease, and meet life’s inevitable ups and downs with steadiness and resilience.

“When you rest in a sense of being—rather than constantly doing—your brain can grow new pathways for peace, contentment, and love.”
Rick Hanson
What is Somatic Yoga?
Joanna Rose Somatic yoga is a gentle but powerful practice that blends traditional yoga, restorative poses, and breath-led, body-aware movement. Rather than aiming for perfect poses, you're invited to slow down, move with curiosity, and tune into how your body feels from within. This approach helps release deep tension, calm the nervous system, and support natural strength, flexibility, and posture. Grounded in compassion and presence, it’s a nourishing way to reconnect with yourself. Whether you’re coping with tight shoulders, low-level anxiety, or just longing for a kinder, wiser approach to movement, somatic yoga offers a nourishing path back to ease. No prior experience required - just a willingness to slow down and notice.

Because being is more than enough.
Because being is more than enough.

Hi, I’m Jo
I’m a yoga and mindfulness teacher with a background in education, and a lived understanding of what it means to juggle work, family, and the many demands of modern life. I’ve trained in and taught Ashtanga, Yin yoga, and mindfulness-based practices - but over time, I found myself drawn to something more spacious, more grounded, and more sustainable: Somatic Yoga.
My classes weave together movement, stillness, and compassionate awareness. They’re designed not to push or perfect, but to offer a calm, supportive space where you can reconnect with your body, regulate your nervous system, and feel your enoughness - just as you are. I know what it’s like to live in a constant state of doing. As a mother and a primary school teacher, I’ve spent years holding space for others - and I’ve also learned how vital it is to hold space for ourselves. These practices have helped me find steadiness, clarity, and joy in the small moments - and that’s what I love to share. I teach from experience. Not from a place of performance or perfection, but from knowing how powerful it can be to pause, breathe, and come back to yourself. My hope is that these classes feel like a sanctuary - a gentle haven where you can land, feel supported, and gradually build the resources you need to meet the inevitable waves of life with steadiness and care. What we practice on the mat - awareness, compassion, presence - we carry into our everyday lives. And over time, these small, embodied shifts can make all the difference.
